A few weeks ago, I visited the new Dale Chihuly exhibit at the Seattle Center. Dale Chihuly is world-famous as a glass artist, and the exhibit at the Seattle Center is phenomenal. If you get a chance to see it, you should go! I had my phone with me, and as we walked through the exhibit, I took a few photos. Trust me, these don't do this exhibit justice. It's way better in real life. The colors are phenomenal, and the shapes are intriguing and inspiring.
^ The above photo is a ceiling within the Seattle Center's Dale Chihuly exhibit. I'll be honest. I looked at that, and I saw the possibility of great creativity in a Starbucks card design. Originally, I'd thought of a mug, but I think a card is a much better idea because of the translucency of a Starbucks card.
By the way, there is glass work in the gardens outside the exhibit too:
So, I propose that Starbucks partner with Dale Chihuly and create something really amazing and collectible. Starbucks certainly can do this. As you may recall, in 2009, Starbucks partnered with Christian Siriano to create a "designer mini card." If they can partner with a fashion designer to create a card, then they can certainly partner with a glass artist. And, I think it is especially nice that both Dale Chihuly and Starbucks are products of the Pacific Northwest.
Of course, there is the question whether Dale Chihuly might like this idea? I tweeted about it, and @ChihulyStudio replied:
Of course, that does not mean that Dale Chihuly himself is interested in this idea. The @ChihulyStudio profile appears to be an employee of the Chihuly Studio who tweets on behalf of Dale Chihuly and his studio. It's a good start for a reply though!
As an aside, you may be wondering why I am not posting this idea on MyStarbucksIdea.com. 1) There is no way to put pictures into idea threads at MyStarbucksIdea.com and this idea really needs images. A picture is worth a thousand words. 2) I have my own blog, so of course I will use this resource; 3) I am not totally convinced that the voting at MyStabucksIdea.com is all that meaningful. It sometimes happens that good ideas get down votes, and vice versa, for whatever reason; 4) the format of MyStarbucksIdea.com doesn't allow for longer ideas with embedded links and a lot of formatting. I want to be able to have links!
There you have it. Now if only we can make a cool Dale Chihuly Starbucks card happen. :)
Please vote up the Dale Chihuly MyStarbucksIdea.com idea! Thanks!
$30 Starbucks Gift Card Giveaway:
A little over one month ago, I did a giveaway of a $30 Starbucks card in an article about a Tazo tea poster. That giveaway looked like it was pretty popular, and it was easy to manage. So this giveaway is structured nearly identical that one:
You must leave a comment in the blog to enter - Your comment should include your idea for the Starbucks card, whatever that may be. It doesn't matter if you want new designs, new functionality, or something else. It does have to be a serious suggestion though.
One entry per person.
Your entry must be posted in these comments before 9:00 p.m. (PST), July 15, 2012.
I will count the first 70 eligible entries. No entries after that are counted.
Your name cannot be entirely key words, spam, or you cannot simply have the user name "Starbucks." (In other words, "Buy cheap meds here" is not a valid user name, and nor is simply "Starbucks" without more.)
I would ask that you share this blog and/or article via Facebook or Twitter, though that is not required.
Do not assume that just because you see 70 comments, the giveaway is closed. I will count the first 70 valid entries. I've learned from experience that many comments will simply be discussion and not entries.
All entrants must be over 18 years of age.
The winner must have a valid address in the U.S., Canada, Australia, Ireland, or the U.K.
There will be only one grand prize winner of the $30 gift card.
Good luck! I look forward to hearing your Starbucks card ideas!
